The REEF Story

In 1984, brothers Fernando and Santiago Aguerre founded REEF out of their love for the beach and surfing. They wanted to make high-quality, comfortable products that aligned with their lifestyle - so they created sandals that would take them from the beach to the streets and everywhere in between. Today, REEF sandals are more than a footwear choice. They represent a lifestyle full of comfort and happiness.

We believe that the beach is where happiness and freedom come to light and that there is a deep connection between our well-being and our beaches. We are dedicated to protecting our ocean, preserving our reefs, and continuing to create access to the spirit of the beach.

We are dedicated to global awareness, advancing scientific innovation, and sharing knowledge about the importance of coral reefs to our planet and how we can work together to protect them. We have teamed up with Ambassador, Chemist, and professional surfer Dr. Cliff Kapono to make positive changes in coral protection. We have mapped 2 reefs and have over 150,000 views on our live reef stream.

Sustainability has been part of REEF’s DNA since the beginning. Reef’s founders went to great lengths to create products with the lowest possible impact. Today, more than 37 years later, we continue to uphold these ideologies with even greater emphasis, because they are as relevant now as they were then. In 2007, REEF’s mission was to incorporate renewable, recycled, and/or organic materials whenever possible. It was also at this time that REEF marked a milestone by becoming 100% PVC-free, something we can still proudly claim today
